The action takes place in a public library during a reading club meeting.
The chosen book is Tracy Chevalier’s Girl with a Pearl Ring made into a film by director Peter Webber and starring Scarlett Johansson among others.
At EspaiKD we recreated Johannes Vermeer’s studio, the assistants had to walk through it to reach the room where the reading took place. That way there was an immersion into the context of the story, the painting itself and the period. Inside the room they found several products of those times...warm wine, Dutch cheese and bread, everything served in pottery jugs and cups like those of the 17th century. Books have a different flavour when being read in the scenery where they take place.
The author, Tracy Chevalier, was sent a report on the event at which she showed amazement and gratitude.
